About
My primary research interest is understanding the ecology of vertebrates and plant communities and applying this knowledge to develop strategies which can directly inform management and conservation. I am interested in evaluating the association between landscape pattern and avian community structure and distribution in the larger-scale context, and investigating how agriculture, disturbance, and fragmentation influence fitness of individuals and trajectories of wildlife and plant populations.
In my recent postdoctoral position at USGS Texas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife
Research Unit/ Texas Tech University, I am developing a survey and monitoring strategy of Golden Eagle in relation to fast growing wind energy in the western United States. By developing field survey protocol in an occupancy model framework, my aim is to propose long-term monitoring strategy to support the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service goal to manage Golden Eagles in the context of wind energy.
Before the Golden Eagle project, I was a postdoc research associate in the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at University of Florida from 2008-2011. The project was designed to update the nesting dataset for Wood Stork, a Federally endanger species, and to help establish criteria for identifying and prioritizing existing and future Wood Stork colony habitat in the southeastern United States. For more information about the Wood Stork project, please visit the project website at http://www.wec.ufl.edu/faculty/frederickp/woodstork/
When not working on academic work, I enjoy photography and playing music. I also like most outdoor activities, especially bird watching, which has been my main hobby for 25+ years.
